Tales from Outer Suburbia

Tales from Outer Suburbia - Shaun Tan This is an odd and gorgeous graphic novel. It's full of the type of strange little dream-like stories I would have read over and over if I had owned this book as a child. I half wonder if the author came up with these ideas from his own dreams or if they were drug-induced because they're all deliciously strange.

Stories inside include ones about:
1. The direction-giving water buffalo
2. The very small exchange student who lived in the pantry
3. The man found wandering around town in an old fashioned diving suit
4. A gigantic ball of lost poems floating through the city
5. A large marine animal appearing on the front lawn
6. A strange scavenger hunt required as a pre-wedding tradition
7. Finding a secret courtyard in a new house
8. Stick figures wandering the streets
9. Traditions for a nameless holiday
10. An amnesia machine
11. Everyone having an intercontinental ballistic missile in their yard that they've painted & turned into planters
12. Dogs getting revenge on a dog killer
13. How to make your own pet from common household trash
14. Finding out if there really is nothing in real life at the end of the city map
15. A turtle rescue

I read the entire book in about 15 or 20 minutes and was left wanting more.

Note: While I critique both purchased and free books in the same way, I'm legally obligated to tell you I received this book free through the Amazon Vine program in return for my review. Blah blah blah.
